Reports of the Government Accountability Office (GAO)
Summary
The Government Accountability Office yearly issues numerous reports on a wide variety of subjects, detailing both positive and negative performance of agencies and programs of the Federal Government. It also is the chief monitor of compliance with the Antideficiency Act, a fundamental budget law restricting the Executive Branch agencies from making legal obligations unless specifically authorized by law enacted by Congress.

The Government Accountability Office annually complies with the statutory mandate by issuing a report detailing duplication in programs administered by the Federal Government. The reports usually are made public in April of each year.
